I had so much fun designing this card. It was inspired by collage art, so I tried to make the letters very simple yet exaggerated. Adding the wonky stars gave it a retro feel, which is always a good thing to me.
How to Make this Christmas Card
Supplies Needed:
- Card Blanks* (or make your own)
- Cricut Smart Cardstock** (or regular cardstock)
- Cricut (I used my Cricut Maker 3)
- Glitter Paper***
- Glue
- SVG File (Available at the bottom of the post)
- Craft knife and ruler
*I used pre-made card blanks, but it’s easy to make your own cards.
By the way, this design fits an A6 (4.5 x 6.25″) card. Resizing may alter the design.
**If you have a Cricut Maker, I highly recommend trying the Cricut Smart Cardstock. It’s so easy to use – no mat required! And no glue is needed since it has adhesive on the back. It’s just like using stickers! I used colors from the Brights and Pastel packs for this project.
***I used glitter cardstock because I wanted to add a bit of shine, but I had problems with the paper peeling a bit due to the shape of the stars. They’re so pointy that it peeled the glitter layer up a bit. Nothing glue won’t fix, but I wanted to mention it.
- Upload and cut the design as usual.
- Apply the background pieces first, aligning the edges to the edge of the card. It’s okay if it overlaps a bit.
- Apply the letters, centering them in the background rectangles.
- Smooth all of the paper to ensure that it sticks well.
- Glue the stars in place. I had to sit something heavy on the top until it dried to get it to lie flat.
- If you have paper that hangs over the edge, use a craft knife and a ruler to trim the excess.
