Blue Hawaiian FAQs
What is blue curacao?
Blue curacao is an artificially colored orange flavored liquor that is popular in tropical drinks. It is mainly used to add color to drinks.
What kind of rum works best for a Blue Hawaiian cocktail?
I used white rum, but flavored rum would be good as well.
Keep in mind that flavored rums will add to the sweetness of the drink, so consider omitting the frozen pineapple and using ice instead.
What is the best blender for frozen drinks?
I love my Ninja blender. It’s an affordable blender that has the blending power of a more expensive blender.
It crushes ice in seconds and does a fantastic job of blending everything without leaving large chunks of ice that get stuck in your straw. I hate that!
Blue Hawaiian Cocktail Recipe
In my version of this classic drink, I used frozen pineapple instead of ice. This give the drink the consistency of a smoothie, which I love.
It also turns the drink a bit green, so the name becomes a bit of a misnomer. However, Aqua Hawaiian or Green Hawaiian doesn’t have the same ring to it. Add food color if you want.
The addition of pineapple also makes the drink sweeter, so stick with ice if you don’t love super sweet drinks (or if you want more than 1.)
The last note I want to add is that the blue Curacao and rum combination is much stronger than I thought it would be. This drink feels so harmless because it tastes like a smoothie, but it packs a punch.
