Cocktails for Two: Blood Orange Moscow Mule
How to make a simple blood orange Moscow Mule.
I love a good fruity cocktail during the summer months, so I’m sharing some of my faves this summer.
This drink was inspired by my friend who told me about drinking peach vodka with ginger beer. When I went to the store, they didn’t have any peach vodka, so we bought blood orange vodka instead.
The results are one of my favorite cocktails ever. I love the simplicity of mixing it, plus I’m a sucker for blood orange anything.
My husband doesn’t like this cocktail as much as I do. Next time, I’m going to add lime juice to his drink because I know he likes sour favors. Try that if it’s too sweet.

Blood Oranges
We lived in Sicily for 3 years where the volcanic soil produces the most amazing blood oranges ever. The insides are dark red, almost like blood and the oranges taste very sweet.
If you’re looking for blood oranges to add to your cocktail, you probably missed the season for them. They’re only available in late winter/early spring.
Since its June, I used CaraCara oranges instead, which are pretty good, too. They have a pink color, so close enough, right?
The cocktail itself doesn’t need the fruit because the vodka is flavored, but it makes a pretty garnish.
Tips for Slicing Citrus Fruits
My biggest tip is to buy a tomato knife. The serrated edges cut through the hard peel without squishing the fruit.
Cut through the center of the fruit (think equator on a globe) to get pretty slices.
